Bardhaman, July 2: A significant administrative change has led to the cancellation of admissions for 120 girls at Baidyapur Vidyapith, a co-educational school in the Kalna No. 2 block of East Bardhaman, West Bengal. The school, which has been operating as a co-ed institution for the past 50 years, was recently declared a boys’ school without prior notice to the administration or the students.
The change was discovered when girls in the 11th grade attempted to register on the education portal, only to find that their school status had been altered. This unexpected decision has left many students and parents in distress.
The school, established in 1976, serves students from classes 5 to 12 and has over 1,700 students enrolled, along with three teachers. Despite operating as a co-ed institution for decades, the school administration has claimed that it never received official approval for co-education.
Following the cancellation of admissions for the 120 girls, the school administration has reached out to the District Education Department, requesting that the school status be maintained as co-ed for the current academic year to accommodate the affected students. However, they have yet to receive a positive response.
As the situation unfolds, the future of the affected students remains uncertain, raising concerns about the abrupt changes in educational policies.
