New Delhi, May 1: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a revolutionary step by launching a new ‘Parenting Calendar’ for the academic session 2026-27. This initiative aims to transform parents from mere spectators during Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) into active partners in their children’s development. It aligns with the vision of the new education policy, which emphasizes not just academic performance but also the mental, social, and emotional growth of children.
The calendar will provide training for parents to identify changes in their children’s behavior and anxiety levels. It will also offer guidance on the risks associated with social media, gaming addiction, and screen time management.
For the first time, issues previously considered ‘home matters’ will be integrated into the school system. The calendar categorizes content based on the age of children, ensuring tailored support from nursery to class 12.
Support Groups and Events
Support groups will be established to facilitate learning among parents, along with events designed for children.
In the nursery section, the focus will be on children’s habits, emotional development, and screen time. The middle class will address friendships and digital behavior, while the senior class (grades 9-12) will prioritize concerns, exam stress, and life skills.
Structured Communication with Parents
The initiative emphasizes organized communication, moving beyond traditional PTMs. Regular workshops will help parents understand their children’s behavior and mental state. Support groups will be formed for sharing experiences, and offline engagement will be promoted through projects and open house events.
Problem-Solving Focus
A senior official from the board highlighted that screen addiction and pressures are isolating children. Therefore, collaboration among schools, teachers, and parents is essential. The calendar aims to encourage timely PTMs to address issues before they escalate.
Principle of ‘4 Rs’
The new calendar is based on the ‘4 Rs’ principle, which seeks to deepen the relationship between parents and children:
– Reflection: Considering parenting methods.
– Reinforcement: Promoting positive behavior.
– Relationship: Strengthening trust between parents and children.
– Rejoicing: Celebrating small achievements and moments spent together.
This initiative marks a significant shift in how schools engage with parents, fostering a collaborative environment for the holistic development of children.
