India Receives Fourth Russian S-400 Air Defense Squadron

Mumbai, June 5: India has officially received its fourth squadron of the Russian S-400 air defense system, enhancing its military capabilities. This delivery comes as part of a larger agreement signed in 2018, where India committed to purchasing five S-400 systems for approximately $5.43 billion.

The first three squadrons have already been integrated into service, and this latest addition is expected to bolster India’s air defense significantly. Each squadron typically consists of around 18 fighter jets, and the S-400 system is renowned for its long-range capabilities, able to target enemy jets, aircraft, and drones within a range of 400 kilometers.

The S-400 system incorporates advanced artificial intelligence to track and engage various aerial threats, including missiles and drones. It played a crucial role during Operation Sindhoor, demonstrating its effectiveness in real-time defense scenarios.

India is anticipated to receive its final S-400 squadron by 2027, further solidifying its defense posture in the region.
