N Chandrasekaran to Continue as Tata Sons Chairman

Mumbai, September 18: In a significant development for the Tata Group, N Chandrasekaran has been reappointed as the Chairman of Tata Sons until 2032. The decision was made by the board of Tata Sons Limited on September 17, extending his tenure as the company prepares for its entry into the stock market. Chandrasekaran, who was initially set to retire in February 2027, had previously announced his resignation on August 12 amid reported disagreements with Noel Tata and internal trust issues. This extension is pending approval at the annual general meeting, where Tata Trust holds a 66% stake. Notably, this marks the first time a group executive will remain in position beyond the standard retirement age of 65, as Tata Group policy typically mandates. Currently 63 years old, Chandrasekaran will be 70 when his new term concludes. He joined the Tata Sons board in October 2016 and was appointed chairman in January 2017, having started his as an intern at TCS in 1987.
