US Secretary of State Rubio Visits India Amid Tariff War

Mumbai, May 25: In a significant diplomatic move, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived in India for a crucial visit following the recent tariff war between the two nations. Rubio’s visit, which spans from May 23 to May 26, includes stops in Kolkata, New Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur.

On May 24, Rubio held a high-level meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi. The discussions focused on various pressing issues, including trade, energy, regional security, and the movement of people. Both leaders emphasized the goal of ‘Mission 500,’ aiming to double trade between the US and India by 2030.

Rubio described India as the United States’ “most important strategic partner” and addressed concerns related to visa issues and the security of legal migration. The two leaders expressed optimism about a significant trade agreement in the future and discussed enhancing energy supplies with Indian Prime Minister Modi.

This meeting marks the first top-level interaction between the two countries since the tariff war began, highlighting the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation.

In related news, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved a record surplus transfer of ₹2.86 lakh crore to the central government for the fiscal year 2025-26, the highest amount ever transferred.

Additionally, Gurinderveer Singh has made headlines by becoming India’s fastest runner, setting a new national record in the 100 meters at the Federation Cup held in Ranchi. Singh completed the race in 10.09 seconds, breaking the previous record of 10.18 seconds held by Animesh Kujur.
