New Delhi, May 27: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has raised serious concerns regarding the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and its contract with the COEMPT company for digital evaluation of the Class 12 examination results. Gandhi alleged that the company, previously known as Globalina, was embroiled in controversies in Telangana back in 2019.
He questioned the rationale behind awarding the contract to COEMPT, asking who recommended the decision and what rules were bypassed in the process. Gandhi further inquired about the relationship between COEMPT’s management and the Modi government, emphasizing that despite the name change, the company’s intentions remain unchanged.
In response, CBSE has dismissed Gandhi’s allegations, stating that all general finals rules and established procedures were followed in awarding the contract to COEMPT Edutech. A statement from CBSE clarified that applications for digital evaluation of the 2026 board exams were solicited on August 28, 2025, and the contract was awarded after completing the necessary processes.
The board also reported an unprecedented response from students regarding the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, with one in four students requesting scanned copies of their answer sheets. Out of 17,68,962 students who appeared for the exam, 4,04,319 (22.85%) have requested their answer sheets, totaling 11,31,961 requests. By Tuesday evening, 8,98,214 answer sheets had already been dispatched to the students.
This year’s requests are four times higher compared to the previous year, marking a historic first for any board in the country. However, some applications remain pending due to technical glitches on the board’s website, with the verification process ongoing. The board assured that all pending applications related to scanned answer sheets would be processed by May 27, and the re-evaluation process would commence on May 29.
Students dissatisfied with their marks can apply for verification or re-evaluation of their answers. In 2025, 1,31,000 students had requested 2,82,000 answer sheets, with 50,000 seeking re-evaluation due to dissatisfaction with their scores.
CBSE noted that the evaluation for the Class 12 exams was conducted on-screen, with all answer sheets scanned for this purpose.
