UPSC Prelims 2026 Results Announced, 13,343 Candidates Qualify

Mumbai, June 16: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the results for the Prelims examination of 2026 late on June 15. A total of 13,343 candidates have successfully qualified for the next stage.

These candidates will now participate in the Mains examination, which is being conducted for 933 positions. This year, the number of qualifiers is lower compared to 2025, where 14,161 candidates had passed the Prelims.

The UPSC Prelims exam was held on May 24, 2026, across the country in two shifts. The first shift consisted of the General Studies (GS) paper, while the second shift featured the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT).

This year, 8.19 lakh candidates registered for the UPSC Prelims exam, with 5.49 lakh appearing for it at 2,072 centres across 83 cities. Following the interview process, a total of 933 positions will be filled.

Candidates who have qualified the Prelims will need to fill out the Detailed Application Form (DAF-I) for the Mains exam, which will be available on the official website starting June 19 and can be submitted until June 28.

In a notable change, the provisional answer key was released just four days after the exam on May 28, a departure from the usual practice of releasing it after the entire examination process. The provisional answer key indicated that one question out of 100 was removed.

The Mains exam is scheduled for August 21, consisting of nine question papers. Successful candidates in the Mains will be called for an interview, with final selection based on the scores from both the Mains and the interview.

The UPSC Civil Services Examination recruits for various Group A and B services in the central government, including IAS, IPS, and IFS, among others. Final selection will be based on rank, category, and preference.
