CBSE Extends 12th Re-evaluation Deadline to June 7

New Delhi, June 6: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the deadline for students to apply for the verification and re-evaluation of their answer sheets for the 12th board examination from June 6 to June 7. This decision aims to provide students with additional time and address the technical issues that have arisen on the portal.

CBSE launched an online portal for post-result services on June 2, which has since faced complaints from students regarding difficulties in viewing answer sheets and applying for verification and re-evaluation.

In a related development, the board has filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Delhi Police concerning cyber attacks on the portal. Investigations are underway, as the board reported that the portal experienced continuous cyber attacks over the past three days, which were successfully mitigated.

63,000 Applications for Re-evaluation
According to officials, as of June 4, a total of 70,433 applications were received through the post-result services portal, including 7,314 for marks verification and 63,119 for re-evaluation. The re-evaluation portal was initially set to launch on June 1 but was delayed until June 2 due to technical issues.

Shortly after the portal’s launch, some miscreants attempted to disrupt it by executing a denial-of-service attack, resulting in 1.5 million hits on the website within just two minutes, along with over 100,000 unauthorized attempts to open files.

The board has confirmed that there have been no reports of data leaks or unauthorized access to any information. To combat these cyber threats, teams from IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, Digital India Corporation, I4C, CERT-In, and other central agencies have provided assistance.

CBSE Faces Controversies Post-Results
The board has been embroiled in controversies since the results were announced. Key incidents include:
1. Introduction of OSM System: CBSE implemented the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for the first time in the 2026 12th board examination, claiming it would enhance transparency and accuracy in evaluation.
2. Results Declared on May 13: The results revealed a pass percentage of 85.20%, a decline from 88.39% in 2025, leading to numerous complaints from students about unexpectedly low marks.
3. Student Complaints: Following the results, students alleged technical flaws in the OSM system, claiming that some scanned copies were unclear and that not all answers were evaluated.
4. Controversy with Student Vedant: A student from Delhi, Vedant Srivastava, alleged that he received another student’s answer sheet instead of his own during the re-evaluation process. CBSE acknowledged the error and provided the correct copy, raising questions about the OSM system’s reliability.
5. Changes in CBSE Leadership: The central government transferred CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta, ordering an investigation into the procurement processes and technical issues related to the OSM system.

This ongoing situation continues to unfold as students and authorities navigate the challenges presented by the recent examination results and the associated processes.
