India to Host BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting

Mumbai, April 16: India is set to host the BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting in May, aimed at reducing regional tensions and promoting dialogue. The meeting will address security and energy issues, as well as global conflicts, particularly the ongoing tensions in West Asia. This gathering will serve as a precursor to the 18th BRICS Summit scheduled for 2026, marking 20 years since the bloc’s inception in 2009. The theme for this year is “Building for Resilience, Innovation Cooperation and Sustainability.”

Additionally, India will also host a meeting of the Quad countries’ Foreign Ministers in the last week of May, which includes representatives from the United States, Japan, and Australia.

In other news, Austrian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker visited India on April 15. This marks his first official visit to the country, where he is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss business, investment, and green technology collaborations.

Furthermore, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will embark on a three-day visit to Germany starting April 21, where he will engage in discussions regarding submarine deals and defense investment.

Lastly, the Indian government plans to introduce a Joint Theatre Command, which will integrate the Army, Navy, and Air Force under a unified command structure to enhance operational efficiency.
