NEET UG Re-Exam: Strict Monitoring and Digital Device Ban

Mumbai, June 9: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced that the NEET UG re-examination will be held on June 21, 2026, following the cancellation of the original exam due to a paper leak. The exam, which will take place from 2 PM to 5:15 PM in pen-and-paper mode, will be closely monitored to prevent any further incidents.

As part of the security measures, paper setters will be placed under strict restrictions and will remain in lockdown until the exam date to mitigate the risk of leaks. The NTA has selected 551 cities across India and 14 international centers for the examination.

Officials have stated that all processes related to the exam, including question setting, translation, printing, packaging, storage, transportation, and distribution, will be under stringent surveillance. To ensure security, the Indian Air Force will be used to transport all materials related to the question papers.

In addition, digital monitoring will be in place to track social media platforms and messaging services, aiming to eliminate the spread of fake question papers and misinformation.

The NTA is also developing a new system where experts will not know which exam they are preparing questions for. Under this plan, subject experts will create questions that will be stored in a large digital bank, potentially containing around 10,000 questions. The final exam paper will be generated using technology from this question bank.

NEET, or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, is a crucial examination for admission to medical and dental courses in India, having commenced in 2013. It facilitates entry into all government and private medical colleges, including prestigious institutions like AIIMS and JIPMER.
