Lucknow, June 9: The Uttar Pradesh Police Constable Recruitment Examination commenced on June 8, 2026, with reports indicating that 5,863 candidates abandoned the test on its first day. The examination is being conducted across 28 centers in the state, with strict security measures in place, including biometric verification for entry. Over 1,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure smooth conduct of the exam.
Videos circulating on social media depict the chaos faced by students, as many struggled to reach their examination centers amid heavy crowds. Following the exam, significant congestion was observed at railway stations and bus stands, raising concerns about the effectiveness of the arrangements made by the government.
In a bid to support candidates traveling for the exam, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a 50% discount on bus fares. However, despite these measures, a large number of students faced difficulties. On June 8, candidates were seen entering trains through emergency windows due to overcrowding at the Charbagh railway station in Lucknow.
Additionally, a storm in Unnao caused delays for candidates traveling from Kanpur, forcing them to walk to their centers after a tree fell on the tracks. The first shift of the exam saw 2,953 candidates absent, while the second shift recorded 2,910 absentees, resulting in only 19,673 candidates participating out of the expected 25,536.
The examination process has also been marred by incidents of misconduct, with one candidate arrested for using a mobile phone inside the exam center and another detained for alleged irregularities during the test.
The UP Police Constable Recruitment Examination will continue until June 10, 2026, with over 29 lakh candidates vying for 32,679 positions across more than 1,100 exam centers statewide.
